ASSAM

Assam is emerging as a promising player in India’s rapidly expanding live entertainment market, with a new report by BookMyShow, Assam Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. (ATDC) and EY-Parthenon projecting more than ₹700 crore in cumulative economic impact over the next five years. The report, *The Assam Blueprint: Turning Live Music Economy into a Tourism Multiplier*, highlights the growing role of live events as economic catalysts, using Post Malone’s first-ever India solo headline concert in Guwahati in December 2025 as a benchmark. The event generated an estimated ₹43 crore in economic impact, including ₹32 crore in direct spending and nearly ₹5 crore in GST revenue.

Despite airline disruptions, the concert attracted over 20,000 attendees, with 53 per cent travelling from outside Guwahati and representing more than 200 cities and towns nationwide. Visitor spending extended far beyond ticket sales, with every ₹100 spent on tickets generating an additional ₹899 across accommodation, transport, dining, shopping and local services. Market indicators showed strong gains across sectors. Hotel occupancy rose around 30 per cent during the concert weekend, ride demand increased by over 50 per cent, restaurant and café footfalls climbed more than 33 per cent, while retail businesses reported over 30 per cent higher customer traffic. Tourism destinations including Kaziranga, Majuli, Kamakhya Temple and Sivasagar also benefited from increased visitor movement.

The report notes that Guwahati recorded a 188 per cent increase in live-event footfalls in 2025 and hosted 55 ticketed events, underscoring its emergence as a key entertainment and tourism market. Around 2,500 personnel were employed across security, logistics, hospitality and production, while local vendors participated in staging, branding, infrastructure and sustainability operations. With supportive policies, single-window facilitation through ATDC and expanding infrastructure, Assam is positioning itself as a major entertainment corridor. The momentum is expected to continue with legendary rock band Guns N’ Roses set to perform in Guwahati on November 17, 2026.
