Assam Rifles carried out a successful operation in Mizoram’s Champhai district, seizing 466 bags of illegal areca nuts valued at around Rs 2.48 crore. The contraband, weighing approximately 35,560 kilograms, was recovered during a coordinated patrol in the Ruantlang area on August 11.
Acting on reliable intelligence, Assam Rifles launched a well-planned operation involving area surveillance and patrols to intercept the illegal shipment. The recovered goods were handed over to the Customs Preventive Force in Champhai for further investigation and legal action. This operation underlines Assam Rifles’ ongoing vigilance and swift response in curbing the smuggling of contraband in the region through close coordination with intelligence agencies.
Separately, from August 2 to 10, joint operations by the Indian Army’s Spear Corps, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police across various districts of Manipur led to the arrest of 22 insurgents and seizure of six weapons, including pistols, rifles, grenades, and ammunition.
