In a significant crackdown on smuggling activities, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Customs Preventive Force, seized 8,000 kilograms of illegal areca nuts in Champhai district. The contraband, estimated to be worth approximately ₹56 lakh, was recovered based on precise intelligence inputs. The seized consignment has been handed over to Customs for further investigation and legal proceedings. Assam Rifles has intensified its operations in the region to dismantle smuggling networks and apprehend those orchestrating these illicit activities.

This operation follows a series of successful interceptions by the Assam Rifles. Recently, the force, in coordination with the Excise and Narcotics Department, seized 22 grams of heroin valued at ₹15.40 lakh from a woman’s possession in Champhai. The accused, 40-year-old Tlangmawii, along with the contraband, was handed over for legal action. In another high-profile operation near Zokhawthar, the Assam Rifles confiscated 22.676 kilograms of methamphetamine tablets worth a staggering ₹68.03 crore. The drugs were abandoned by a suspect who fled across the Tiau River into Myanmar when confronted by the joint team.

These operations underscore Assam Rifles’ commitment to curbing smuggling activities and maintaining security in Mizoram, a region often targeted by transnational criminal networks.
