Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Mizoram forest department, seized a large consignment of the protected medicinal plant, Paris polyphylla (locally known as Anchiri) at Hmawngbuchhuah in Lawngtlai on Monday.
Official sources said the operation resulted in the recovery of 311 bags of Anchiri weighing 10,574 kilograms, valued at approximately Rs 1.05 crore.
Five individuals were apprehended and five vehicles were seized.
The recovered consignment, apprehended individuals and vehicles were handed over to the Forest Department, Lawngtlai district for further investigation and legal proceedings.
The operation reaffirms the commitment of Assam Rifles and the Forest Department to curb the illegal collection and trafficking of protected forest produce along the Indo-Myanmar Border.
