Security forces recovered an AK-56 rifle and ammunition during a search operation in the Khozoul and Choudhrikhal areas under Borobekra Police Station in Manipur’s Jiribam district on August 15. The operation was conducted as part of ongoing security measures in vulnerable areas of the district. During the search, personnel recovered one AK-56 rifle, one magazine, four live rounds and three empty cases of 9 mm pistol ammunition. The recovered arms and ammunition were taken into custody for further examination and investigation, officials said.

The operation covered the general areas of Khozoul and Choudhrikhal, which fall under the jurisdiction of Borobekra Police Station. Security forces have continued search and area-dominance operations in vulnerable parts of the district as part of efforts to maintain security and prevent the movement or concealment of illegal arms. The recovery of the assault rifle and ammunition has prompted further investigation into their source and intended use. Security agencies are expected to examine whether the seized weapons were connected to any armed group or other criminal activity in the area. The authorities are also likely to investigate how the weapons reached the area and whether other individuals or networks were involved in storing or transporting them.

No arrests or other follow-up actions were reported in connection with the seizure at the time of the report. The latest recovery comes amid continued security measures across sensitive and vulnerable areas of Manipur. Security forces and police have been conducting searches and other operations to detect and recover illegally held weapons and ammunition. Further details on the investigation and any action arising from the seizure are awaited.
