Indian tennis success has long been associated with Mahesh Bhupathi, solidifying the country’s place on the world tennis scene. The 12-time Grand Slam doubles winner is now sharing his knowledge and insights with padel, another rapidly growing racket sport. Bhupathi thinks that the sport is about to make a big leap forward with the World Padel League (WPL). One of the sports with the quickest rate of growth in the nation is padel. Many tennis players have adopted it as a backup alternative, and its rise has been exponential over the past few years. However, he said, “I think we’re still at ground zero, and there’s plenty of scope for growth.” Bringing the WPL to India from Dubai is more than simply a big event for Bhupathi; it’s about speeding up this expansion.
Being a part of that journey and assisting in its acceleration is one of our primary objectives.Additionally, we are collaborating closely with the Federation to plan additional related events. In five to ten years, hopefully, we will be able to realize the full extent of this sport’s potential.Even though padel is still relatively unknown in India, the sport now has a well-organized international calendar. Bhupathi stated, “Padel already has four majors, but not many people know this.” In Mexico, France, Italy, and Qatar, they compete in Premier Padel Major events. It has a whole tour, and the players are getting more and more recognition, much like tennis. Because it is uncommon for Indian fans to witness this kind of play, the WPL will be extremely thrilling.
