A senior manager and three staff members of the Bank of Baroda’s Manipur University branch has been arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Manipur police after gold worth around Rs 4 crores were reported to be missing. The people who were arrested, according to the officials, were placed under judicial detention for a period of five days. The police became involved in this issue after Ganga Ningomba, the bank’s senior manager, made a complaint in this respect.

On September 17, 2024, the senior bank manager filed a report at the Singjamei police station stating that a case vault lock in a strong room inside the bank was discovered to be broken. When the bank cashier attempted to enter the lock on September 17 at around ten in the morning while on duty, she was startled to discover that some gold packets were gone. After carefully reviewing the film from the CCTV monitor that was set inside the bank, it was discovered that, on September 12, 2024, at around 1:41 pm, two people were inside the branch manager’s chamber.

A preliminary examination also revealed that all of the CCTV cameras were in the dark mode, making it impossible to examine the film in more detail. To learn more about this case, a Special Investigation Team has been established. A case was filed under several Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections. As part of their investigation, the police also apprehended Khaidem Jackychand (38), Gary Nongmaithem (21), and Akoijam Renash (20), the senior bank manager, along with three employees.
