Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, currently on an official visit to New Delhi, held a crucial meeting with Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, George Kurian, to seek urgent approval for several key projects aimed at boosting the fisheries, livestock, and dairy sectors in Mizoram. The meeting is part of the Chief Minister’s broader engagement with the Central Government to strengthen Mizoram’s rural economy through targeted interventions in agriculture and allied sectors. During the discussion, CM Lalduhoma presented five major proposals submitted by the state under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). Among the proposals is an ambitious plan to establish an Integrated Aqua Park at Zawlnuam, which is expected to serve as a hub for modern fish farming and related activities. In addition, the state has submitted specific development projects for both the Chakma and Lai Autonomous District Councils, which aim to uplift local communities through sustainable fisheries initiatives.

Two other important proposals were submitted by local stakeholders, including the Mizoram Fish Farmers, Animal and Husbandry, Dairy Producers and Marketing Association, and the Mizoram Cooperative Fish Farming Marketing and Processing Federation Limited. These projects emphasize cooperative development, better market linkages, and enhanced production capacity in the livestock and dairy sectors. CM Lalduhoma strongly urged the Union Minister to fast-track approvals and ensure timely release of funds, citing the strategic importance of self-reliance in fish, meat, and dairy production for Mizoram’s economic resilience. “We are committed to building a strong, self-sufficient rural economy in Mizoram, and timely central support will help us realize that goal,” the Chief Minister reportedly told the minister.

In response, Union Minister George Kurian assured full cooperation from the Centre. He noted that he would personally examine the proposals and work towards speedy approval and implementation. Kurian reiterated the Central Government’s commitment to supporting development in the Northeastern region, especially in areas of agriculture, animal husbandry, and fisheries, through flagship schemes like PMMSY.
