Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Ram Nath Thakur visited Mizoram’s Siaha district on Monday as part of the Poorvottar Sampark Setu Programme, carrying out a detailed review of ongoing development work and interacting directly with local officials and residents. The visit is part of the Centre’s continued outreach to remote northeastern regions to ensure timely implementation of major schemes.

The Minister arrived at the Siaha Helipad, where he was welcomed by M. Laikaw, Chief Executive Member of the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC); V.L. Hruaizela Khiangte, Deputy Commissioner; and Manjeet Singh Sankhla, Superintendent of Police. Immediately after his reception, Shri Thakur inspected an Agriculture Department Exhibition set up at the Golden Jubilee Hall within the MADC Complex. The display showcased locally implemented projects, farmer-oriented initiatives and achievements under various Central schemes.

Addressing a public gathering organised in his honour, Shri Thakur conveyed greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and thanked the people of Siaha for their warm welcome. He noted that his visit was aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision of directly understanding the challenges faced by citizens in far-flung areas. He assured the audience that every concern and suggestion put forward during the interaction would be communicated to the Prime Minister’s Office.

Reiterating the Central Government’s focus on equitable development, the Union Minister urged residents, community leaders and officials to work collectively to ensure that Central schemes reach every eligible beneficiary. He encouraged local authorities to submit proposals, pending requirements and specific development needs, promising that the Union Government would continue to extend full support.

Speaking during the event, CEM M. Laikaw thanked the Union Minister for visiting Siaha and highlighted the sustained assistance provided by the Central Government to the Autonomous District Councils. He outlined several initiatives undertaken by the MADC and emphasised the need for continued collaboration to accelerate the district’s growth.

Deputy Commissioner V.L. Hruaizela Khiangte, who presided over the programme, expressed gratitude to the dignitaries and provided an overview of the district’s developmental progress. He noted that the visit itself served as a major morale boost for officials working on grassroots governance.
