In Thoubal district, the Manipur police detained two people in possession of heroin and brown sugar, among other narcotics. On April 25, the police conducted a search at Wangmayum Barul Alam’s home in the Lilong Haoreibi region in response to particular intelligence, which resulted in the seizure. Numerous narcotics and psychotropic substances were discovered at his home during the operation. 3.9 kg of brown sugar, seven soap containers carrying 12 grams of suspected heroin powder each, and seven 100 ml bottles of codeine were among the confiscated items, according to the police.
According to the officer, Barul Alam has been taken into custody. He stated that as a follow-up measure, security personnel confiscated Rs 1.14 lakh in unauthorized cash from Yangkhubam Hafi’s home in Darul Uloom Makha, which is located in the same district. The police claimed that the sum was the proceeds from the sale of drugs, and they also recovered a number of prescription capsules. According to the officer, the value of the confiscated goods has not yet been determined. He stated that more research is being done. Since the ethnic warfare between the Meiteis, who live in the Imphal Valley, and the Kuki-Zo, who live in the nearby hills, began in May 2023, the state police and a number of other security agencies have been conducting search operations throughout Manipur.
