Home Minister, Pu K. Sapdanga, informed the Assembly today that the dried betel nut stolen from several warehouses in Vairengte has yet to be recovered. He also reported that betel nuts smuggled from Myanmar, valued at approximately ₹24 crore, were seized between 1 January 2025 and 28 February 2026.
Responding to a question raised by MLA Pu V. L. Zaithanzama, the Home Minister stated that 5,849 bags of betel nut were stolen from a warehouse in Vairengte. He added that the facility was not under police surveillance.
Pu K. Sapdanga further informed the House that during the period from 1 January 2025 to 28 February 2026, authorities seized 11,837 bags of betel nut smuggled from Myanmar. In connection with these seizures, 468 cases were registered and 292 individuals were arrested.
