A seminar was held at the Seminar Hall of Government Siaha College to discuss the possible social, cultural, and economic impacts of the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP) Road and the Bairabi–Sairang Railway Line. The programme brought together government officials, college faculty, NGOs, and community representatives to share views on how the two major transport projects could affect life in Siaha district and neighbouring areas. Shri S. Lalremtuanga, Deputy Chief Executive Member of MADC, attended as the chief guest. In his address, he said that every development project comes with both benefits and challenges. He urged the community and authorities to be prepared in advance so that the positive outcomes can be maximised and the negative effects minimised. He noted that the KMMTTP road would have a major influence on the Lai and Mara districts, and therefore proper planning is needed.
He said that the road and railway line are expected to bring large-scale economic activity, which could help local families if handled responsibly. At the same time, he cautioned that without proper use, these projects could lead to serious problems for families, communities, and youth. He called for cooperation between the government, churches, NGOs, and the public to guide young people and protect cultural and ethnic identity while embracing development. Additional Deputy Commissioner Shri Abraham Beirazi Khithie spoke on awareness campaigns and said similar seminars are taking place in other districts of Mizoram. He highlighted that mindset change and advance preparation will be key for local people to benefit from new economic opportunities.
A detailed presentation was later delivered by Shri Zomuana, Study Committee Member, focusing on social, cultural, and economic impacts. Participants asked questions and shared concerns during an interactive session. The programme was organised by the Committee to Study the Socio, Cultural and Economic Impact of the KMMTTP and the Railway Line, along with the District Administration, Siaha, and the IQAC of Government Siaha College. Officials, faculty members, and NGOs from across Siaha district attended.
