A seminar focused on the social, cultural, and economic implications of the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP) Road and the Bairabi–Sairang Railway Line took place at the Seminar Hall of Government Siaha College. Chief Guest S. Lalremtuanga, Deputy Chief Executive Member (Dy. CEM) of MADC, highlighted the dual nature of development, stressing that while the projects could foster significant economic activity in the Lai and Mara districts, they might also pose challenges if not managed correctly. He called for proactive measures to ensure that local communities benefit while protecting their cultural and ethnic identities. Emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts among the government, churches, NGOs, and the public, he pointed out that the youth would be particularly impacted, necessitating guidance and education to maximize the projects’ advantages.
Abraham Beirazi Khithie, Additional Deputy Commissioner, spoke on the need for awareness campaigns as similar seminars are being conducted in various districts. He reiterated the expected large-scale economic activities from the KMMTTP road and railway line, urging advance preparation and a shift in mindset among locals to ensure they can benefit from the developments.
Zomuana, a Study Committee Member and Resource Person, led a comprehensive presentation regarding the potential impacts of the projects, followed by an interactive question-and-answer session that engaged the audience. The seminar was organized by the Committee to Study the Socio, Cultural, and Economic Impact of the KMMTTP and the Railway Line in collaboration with the District Administration of Siaha and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the college. The event was attended by various officials and NGOs from Siaha District, with Smt. Femina Hlychho, an Associate Professor at the college, welcoming participants and Zorinsangi, an SDC, concluding the seminar with a vote of thanks.
