The first phase of Census 2027 is currently underway, with 6,030 citizens from Mizoram already having registered through the newly introduced self-enumeration process. Spearheaded by the Central Government’s Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, this phase marks a historic milestone. For the first time in India, an online portal has been launched for self-registration during the House listing phase. The portal went live on April 1, and as of today, it has recorded over 6,000 entries from Mizoram. A district-wise breakdown reveals that Aizawl leads the state with 2,180 registered households, closely followed by Lawngtlai District with 2,159 households. State government officials in charge of the census operations have urged the public to take full advantage of this online platform. They emphasized that utilizing the portal not only provides an easier way to register but will also significantly reduce the time and workload of enumerators conducting door-to-door visits for house-listing. Citizens can complete their self-enumeration online by visiting se.census.gov.in. The portal will remain open for registration until April 15.
