Sanjha Utsav

Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation (UD&PA) Minister K. Sapdanga formally opened the “Sanjha Utsav (SHG Mela) – Festival of Togetherness” at Aijal Club Park on Monday. The event, which is being organized by the UD&PA Department, aims to encourage self-sufficiency and economic empowerment among Self-Help Groups (SHGs) throughout Mizoram. Speaking to the audience, Minister Sapdanga underlined how important SHGs are to promoting long-term economic growth. By lowering the usage of single-use plastics and raising knowledge of eco-friendly behaviors, he urged members to take an active role in environmental conservation.

Mizoram has made remarkable strides under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM), according to a report that was presented at the ceremony. The state has effectively employed 5,158 beneficiaries, trained over 10,733 people, and created 1,520 operational SHGs since 2014–2015. In recognition of these advancements, Mizoram received the coveted SPARK Award for two years in a row (2021–22 and 2022–23). The five-day SHG Mela, which takes place from March 10 to 14, offers a venue for SHG entrepreneurs to sell their wares with 27 exhibitors featuring locally made goods and 7 food stalls.
