A one-day media workshop titled “Varta” was organised at the Press Club in Lunglei to create awareness about two important government initiatives – the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025 and the National AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Diseases Control Programme. The programme was organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.The workshop brought together officials, journalists and representatives of local organisations to discuss how information about government schemes can reach people more effectively through the media.

Deputy Commissioner of Lunglei, Pi Navneet Mann, IAS, attended the programme as the Chief Guest. In her address, she said that both schemes are very important for Mizoram, especially for districts like Lunglei where many people depend on agriculture and rural livelihoods. She explained that the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), which is a new version of the earlier MGNREGA programme, provides a guarantee of 125 days of employment for each rural household. According to her, the scheme is expected to strengthen livelihood opportunities and support rural families, particularly those involved in farming and related activities.

The Deputy Commissioner also spoke about the National AIDS and STD Control Programme, noting that Mizoram has reported one of the highest numbers of HIV/AIDS cases in the country. She said awareness, early detection and proper information are very important in addressing the issue. She stressed that the media and social media play a key role in spreading correct information about such programmes and helping people understand how they can benefit from them.She also appreciated the Press Information Bureau for organising the workshop in Lunglei and said such initiatives help improve communication between government agencies, journalists and the public.
