As part of a larger worldwide restructuring, leading Japanese brand Panasonic has chosen to discontinue production of refrigerators and washing machines in the nation as part of a downsizing of its consumer electronics division. It is stopping all of its manufacturing at the Haryana unit in Jhajjar. Panasonic has had difficulty competing with competitors such as Samsung, LG, and Haier in their marketplace. They have not received the profit they anticipated from Panasonic in India. At the moment, Panasonic only holds a 1.8% market share in washing machines and a 0.8% market share in refrigerators. Panasonic wants to improve its overall brand awareness in the area and reclaim a footing in the competitive market by focusing on LCDs and microwaves.
