Aizawl: On Friday, the Assam Rifles confiscated more than 300,000 methamphetamine tablets valued at ₹112.4 crore in Zokhawthar, located in the Champhai district of Mizoram. “Based on specific intelligence, the area domination patrol team identified two individuals carrying rucksacks. Upon realizing they were being observed, the suspects jumped into the Tiau river and swam across to Myanmar, abandoning their backpacks,” stated a report from the Assam Rifles. “The recovered items were transferred to the Zokhawthar police department for further investigation and legal action,” an officer from the Assam Rifles remarked.

Additionally, on Thursday night, the Assam Rifles seized 11 soap cases containing 128 grams of heroin, which is valued at ₹96 lakh.
The Assam Rifles, tasked with the protection of a 510-kilometer segment of the Indo-Myanmar border in Mizoram, has been diligently involved in combating illegal activities in the border region. The 23 Sector Assam Rifles Headquarters, located in Khatla, Aizawl, oversees three battalions, each managing six Company Operating Bases, to maintain rigorous surveillance and security along the vulnerable border.
