Renault and Nissan are maximizing their alliance by sharing development and production efficiencies for their electric vehicles. The Nissan Ariya and Renault Scenic E-Tech both use the group’s “AmpR Medium” platform but are produced separately—Renault in France and Nissan in Japan.

The collaboration deepened with the R5 E-Tech Electric and Nissan Micra, which share the same production line in Douai, France, differing mainly in design and features.

In 2026, the partnership will expand into smaller EVs with Renault’s revamped Twingo, a modern take on the 1990s model, priced under €20,000. Nissan will launch its version, reportedly named Wave, produced alongside the Twingo at Renault’s Novo Mesto plant in Slovenia. The Twingo is expected in spring 2026, with the Nissan model following in early 2027.

Renault collaborates with China’s Geely for the Twingo’s development, using the “AmpR Small” platform, a 63 kW motor, and a 30 kWh CATL battery for a 300 km range. A more affordable Dacia model on the same platform will debut in 2027.
