Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje announced on Thursday that Mizoram’s Lengpui Airport will be upgraded to the “Krishi Udan” category by the end of this year.

During a press conference at Atal Bhavan in Aizawl, Karandlaje stated that the upgrade will transform the state’s lone airport from a passenger facility to one that promotes agricultural export. The Krishi Udan scheme aims to enhance the transportation of agricultural products, boosting farmers’ access to national and global markets. Karandlaje also highlighted the Centre’s efforts to skill the youth and provide toolkits, encouraging entrepreneurship through loans and support schemes.

“The Modi government is focusing on building more educational institutions, promoting agricultural development, and strengthening MSMEs and infrastructure in Mizoram,” she said. She expressed concern over the low number of PM Kisan beneficiaries in Mizoram, with only around one lakh farmers enrolled. Karandlaje urged the state government to raise awareness about Central government schemes, emphasizing that previous administrations had failed to adequately educate the public on these initiatives.
