Mizoram has announced its ambition to host the National Games in 2032 while simultaneously preparing for the 2036 Olympics. During a recent meeting in New Delhi, Mizoram Sports Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar conveyed the state’s eagerness to Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.
Hmar detailed the state’s plans to develop its athletes for the 2036 Olympics, following a sports conclave held in Aizawl on June 13-14 aimed at enhancing the region’s sports infrastructure and training programs.
In addition to discussing sports initiatives, Hmar, who also oversees labour, employment, skill development, and entrepreneurship, urged Rijiju to integrate skill development schemes for minorities into the planning.
Rijiju responded positively, promising to explore the inclusion of sports development and skill enhancement programs for Mizoram under the Minority Affairs ministry. He also engaged in discussions with Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma about these initiatives.
