Speaking at the BJP office in Aizawl on October 29, Singh said alignment between the state and central governments would help Mizoram gain faster access to national programmes and financial support.“When a state government is not aligned with the ruling party at the Centre, people are often deprived of benefits from central schemes,” Singh stated, urging voters to elect BJP representatives to bring what he described as a stronger development push. Singh, who is Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, asserted that BJP-ruled states have performed better in governance and growth compared to states led by other parties.
The minister expressed confidence that the BJP would secure victory in the upcoming Dampa Assembly bypoll, adding that the party is steadily strengthening its position even in Christian-majority Mizoram, traditionally dominated by regional parties and the Congress. The by-election, scheduled for November 11, was necessitated by the passing of sitting MNF MLA Lalrintluanga Sailo in July. Reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to the Northeast, Singh said the NDA government has placed a high priority on the region’s development, citing improved connectivity, infrastructure projects, and social welfare initiatives. He also claimed that significant transformation has been visible across key sectors in the past decade.
Singh is currently on a two-day campaign tour supporting BJP candidate Lalhmingthanga in Dampa. Five candidates are in the fray: Vanlalsailova of the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), R. Laithangliana of the Mizo National Front (MNF), John Rotluangliana of the Congress, Lalhmingthanga of the BJP, and K. Zahmingthanga of the People’s Conference.
