The inaugural programme of the “Drug-Free District Campaign” under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was held at the DC Conference Hall, Lawngtlai today. The programme was chaired by Donny Lalruatsanga, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the Lawngtlai District Level Committee on Drug-Free District. The campaign was officially launched by C Lalsawmzuala, Chief Executive Member (CEM), and LADC. C Lalsawmzuala expressed gratitude to the members of the District Level Committee and stated that the campaign was launched with the aim of making Lawngtlai district free from drug abuse and ensuring its successful implementation. He highlighted that since Lawngtlai is located along the international border, it is highly vulnerable to drug trafficking, making it essential to intensify efforts in combating drug abuse.He further stated that making Lawngtlai a drug-free district would not be easy and would require strong cooperation and collective efforts from the government, Village Councils (VCs), NGOs, churches, and the general public. He urged everyone to work together with full commitment.

The CEM emphasized the need for careful and innovative approaches in tackling drug abuse. While acknowledging the continuous efforts made by the government, NGOs, and churches in rehabilitating drug users, he stressed that sustained dedication and perseverance are crucial. He reiterated that LADC will continue to contribute actively and called upon all stakeholders, including VCs, NGOs, churches, MJA, and the public, to take an active role in the fight against drugs.

Donny Lalruatsanga highlighted that, alongside the initiatives of the Mizoram Government, this campaign is also a significant initiative of the Central Government. He mentioned that various important committees have been formed under this programme and that funds have been allocated by the Central Government to support anti-drug initiatives. He affirmed that all efforts will be made to transform Lawngtlai district into a drug-free district.

He also stressed that combating drug abuse requires collective action, noting that the efforts of Police, Excise, and NGOs alone are not sufficient. He called upon all citizens of Lawngtlai to actively participate in the fight against drugs.

PC Lalchunglura, Superintendent of Police, in his speech appreciated the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner and emphasized that every individual has a significant responsibility in achieving a drug-free district or village. He highlighted the importance of continued cooperation and collective effort in combating drug abuse.

The campaign will cover 187 villages—99 under LADC and 88 under CADC. It is planned for a duration of three years and may be extended if necessary. Committees will be formed at the district, block, and village levels to carry out the campaign effectively within their respective jurisdictions. Villages declared as drug-free, with the approval of the district administration, will be awarded certificates of recognition and citations on every Independence Day.
