In order to increase durability, particularly during the rainy season, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has urged the national government to give concrete road development throughout the state top priority. Lalduhoma suggested installing rigid pavements in place of the current bituminous roads during a meeting with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on Wednesday. He emphasized that concrete roads will save money on long-term maintenance and be better able to resist severe rainfall.

Assuring the Chief Minister that a central team would be dispatched to Mizoram to evaluate the viability of introducing rigid pavement technology in the state, Gadkari responded to the suggestion. We also talked about large-scale infrastructure initiatives. NH-306A was built from Vairengte in Kolasib district to New Vervek village in Aizawl district near the Manipur border, NH-502 between Lawngtlai and Siaha was repaired, and National Highway 6/306 between Vairengte and Sairang was four-laned. Lok Sabha MP Richard Vanlalhmangaiha and Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena attended the meeting with Lalduhoma.
