The Budget Session of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly will begin on February 17, officials confirmed on Monday, January 12. The upcoming session is expected to focus on financial planning and other key legislative matters for the state.Officials said that the full schedule of the session, including the date on which the Budget for the 2026–27 financial year will be presented, has not yet been finalised. The detailed programme will be decided by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Assembly in its upcoming meeting.Additional Secretary of the Assembly Secretariat, Lalthangmawia, said the BAC, which is chaired by Speaker Lalbiakzama, is yet to sit and prepare the roadmap for the session. He added that the committee will also decide how long the session will continue, depending on the amount of official business to be taken up during the sitting.

“The duration of the Budget Session will depend on the legislative and financial matters listed for discussion,” an official said, adding that issues related to governance, development and public welfare are likely to be taken up along with the budget exercise.The forthcoming session will be the sixth session of the ninth Mizoram Legislative Assembly since the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government came to power. The ZPM government, led by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, assumed office in December 2023 after winning the Assembly elections.

The Budget Session is considered one of the most important sittings of the Assembly, as it lays out the government’s financial priorities and policy direction for the coming year. During the session, members of the Assembly are expected to debate budget proposals, raise questions on public spending and discuss development works across the state.
