MEDANTA 22

Medanta has taken a decisive leadership step toward strengthening healthcare delivery in the Northeast with the commencement of construction for its new 400+ bed super-speciality hospital in Guwahati. The Bhoomi Poojan ceremony, held on October 31, brought together Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Medanta Chairman & Managing Director Dr. Naresh Trehan, and Group CEO Pankaj Sahni — underscoring the organisation’s leadership vision and strategic partnership with state authorities.

The ₹500-crore facility, located at Sarusajai Industrial Estate along NH-27, will offer advanced tertiary and quaternary care including robotic and organ transplant programs, cardiac and neuro sciences, oncology, trauma services, diagnostics, and preventive health. Medanta leaders confirmed that the project is expected to generate 5,000–7,000 direct and indirect jobs, positioning the institution as a regional catalyst for healthcare talent development and service excellence. Dr. Trehan emphasised the organisation’s mission to democratise access to high-quality healthcare across India, while Sahni highlighted Guwahati’s strategic role in serving over 50 million people in the Northeast and bridging longstanding service gaps.

Community leaders and healthcare observers say Medanta’s move signals stronger regional healthcare leadership and may ease the burden on families who travel to metro cities for specialised treatment. Local market sentiment suggests the new facility will strengthen referral pathways, encourage talent retention in medical and allied sectors, and potentially attract private medical investment. Residents also anticipate expanded diagnostic tie-ups and tele-consultation support, improving access to specialist care for remote districts.
