The State Election Commission Mizoram has announced that the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into effect for village council bye-elections under the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC). According to an official notification, the MCC came into force from April 6 in all concerned villages where the bye-elections will be held. The elections are scheduled for April 30, and the code will remain in place until the declaration of results.

The notification was issued under sub-rule (1) of Rule 3 of the Mara Autonomous District Council (Election to Village Councils) Rules, 2014. Officials said the MCC will apply to political parties, candidates, and individuals holding public office. During this period, all stakeholders are required to follow the guidelines to ensure a free and fair election process.

The code places restrictions on campaign practices, use of government resources, and public announcements that may influence voters. Authorities have directed all concerned to strictly follow the rules.
