Maruti Suzuki India has officially introduced the much-awaited CNG version of its popular and much-loved hatchback Swift, with prices starting at Rs 8.19 lakh (ex-showroom) and going up to Rs 9.19 lakh for the top-end model.
After discontinuing diesel vehicles, the automaker has turned its focus towards CNG as a key component of its growth strategy, aiming to sell six lakh CNG vehicles by the end of FY 2024-25.
This latest version of the Swift CNG is available in three variants: VXi, VXi(O), and ZXi. Under the hood, the Swift CNG is powered by a revised 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 80 bhp and 112 Nm of torque when running on petrol. In CNG mode, these figures drop slightly to 69 bhp and 102 Nm, while the car is claimed to offer an impressive fuel efficiency of 32.85 km/kg, a six percent improvement over its predecessor. The engine is exclusively paired to a five-speed manual transmission.
In terms of design, the Swift remains largely unchanged from the petrol variant, featuring familiar exterior elements such as LED projector headlamps, LED fog lights and 15-inch alloy wheels. Inside the car, there is a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, rear AC vents and support for over-the-air (OTA) updates.
The addition of the ZXi variant expands the options available to potential buyers for the first time in the Swift CNG lineup. Given the enduring popularity of Swift in the Indian market, the new CNG variant is expected to contribute significantly to Maruti Suzuki’s ambitious sales targets. By retuning the engine to optimise its compatibility with CNG, the brand continues to emphasise greener, more fuel-efficient options while retaining Swift’s established appeal.
Additionally, the deliveries of this hatchback will begin in the state of Gujarat this week and will be rolled out to other states later.
