Manipal Hospital, Broadway successfully performed a minimally invasive, scarless heart surgery on a 17-year-old girl from Aizawl, Mizoram. Laldinpuii (name changed), who had been grappling with breathlessness and fatigue for years, was diagnosed with a 4 cm Atrial Septal Defect (ASD). The procedure, led by Dr. Sujoy Chatterjee, Senior Consultant – Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery, used a small 2.5-inch incision beneath the breast, ensuring faster recovery, minimal pain, and no visible scar.

The surgery was made possible under a collaboration between the Mizoram Government and Manipal Hospitals, ensuring timely treatment for patients from remote areas like Aizawl. With limited access to advanced cardiac facilities locally, Aizawl’s healthcare market has seen growing dependence on metro-based hospitals. The success of this case is expected to boost awareness and confidence in medical travel for specialized care, particularly among younger patients conscious of post-operative cosmetic outcomes.

Manipal Hospitals, with its expanding national footprint and focus on affordable, high-quality care, continues to attract patients from the Northeast, offering cutting-edge treatments like Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS) without compromising long-term health outcomes.
