On April 1, 2026, the price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) reached a historic high of ₹2.07 lakh per kilolitre, more than doubling from previous rates. This increase coincided with a significant rise in global oil prices due to escalating conflict in West Asia, prompting the government to implement a comparatively smaller price hike to shield domestic air travelers. Additionally, the rates for commercial LPG, used primarily by hotels and restaurants, were raised by ₹195.50 per 19-kg cylinder. However, the price of domestic cooking gas LPG remained stable after a ₹60 increase per 14.2-kg cylinder on March 7. The pricing adjustments for ATF and LPG are made monthly by state-owned entities—Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum—based on international market benchmarks and current exchange rates. This adjustment marks the first instance where ATF prices have surpassed the ₹2 lakh threshold, topping the previous high of ₹1.1 lakh per kilolitre recorded in 2022 following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
