Lalhlimpuia, MLA of Lunglei West, conducted an on-ground inspection across multiple localities in Lunglei town to assess persistent drainage issues caused by blocked and poorly maintained channels.
The inspection, carried out on Thursday, highlighted widespread problems linked to clogged drains that frequently disrupt normal life in the town. The MLA was accompanied by officials from the Public Works Department, Lunglei Municipal Council, police, and district administration.
Speaking during the visit, Lalhlimpuia acknowledged that diverting all blocked drainage lines into proper outlets would be a complex task. However, he stressed the need for immediate repair work wherever feasible to provide relief to residents.
He also flagged technical challenges, noting that several water supply pipelines of the Public Health Engineering Department run through existing drains, making coordination between departments crucial for effective repairs.
Calling for a long-term solution, the MLA emphasised the need for a comprehensive drainage overhaul in Lunglei. He proposed a joint, large-scale project involving multiple departments to develop a sustainable and efficient drainage system for the town.
