Amidst the massive unrest prevailing in conflict-ridden Manipur, Kuki militants have added a new ammunition to their arsenal by deploying long-range rockets among civilians in two separate locations of Bishnupur district. The Manipur Police Department stated this in a message they sent out yesterday, claiming that although things were tight in the state, they had everything under control. The report also stated that six other civilians were injured in Moirang Khoiru Leikai of the Bishnupur district and that a 78-year-old senior citizen named RK Rabei of Moirang Phiwangbam Leikai lost his life as a result of the use of long-range rockets among the civilian population.

Teams of police officers and extra security personnel have been dispatched to deal with the militants who are hiding in the nearby hill ranges. The rebels demolished two of their bunkers, one at Laika Mualsau village in Churachandpur and one at Mualsang village. An unexpected attack by alleged Kuki militants forced the Bishnupur District Police team, along with the SP, to move quickly to the scene. The police successfully repelled the onslaught by firing back in a forceful counterattack. Additionally, a military chopper was sent out to offer aerial support.

To discuss the best course of action moving forward, senior police officers from the department, including the DIGP and IGP, have gathered at the location. High-level security gatherings have been held to assess the state of law and order. The relevant authorities are keeping a careful eye on the situation on the ground, and the police have been placed on high alert and are ready to respond to any unexpected incident. In the meanwhile, cars transporting necessities have been allowed to travel along NH-37 and NH-2; nevertheless, in order to guarantee the vehicles’ freedom of movement and safety, stringent security measures have been implemented in all areas that are susceptible to attack. Additionally, a security convoy is available in certain areas.
