In a significant milestone for the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in Mizoram, Governor General Vijay Kumar Singh officiated the ceremonial raising of the NCC Group Headquarters in Aizawl during an event at the Mizoram University Auditorium. This independent headquarters aims to enhance NCC operations in the state. The Governor presented the NCC Group Headquarters Aizawl flag to Group Commander Brig Gunjit Singh Arora, marking the official inauguration of the headquarters. Coinciding with the event, a special commemorative stamp was released.
The ceremony attracted several notable figures, including Sports and Youth Services Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar, retired Lt Col Clement Lalhmingthanga, Mizoram University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka, and Maj Gen Anurag Vij, Additional Director General of NCC in the North Eastern Region, alongside other distinguished guests and officials.
In his address, the Governor expressed his satisfaction with Mizoram establishing its own NCC Group Headquarters, labeling it a proud achievement for the state. He highlighted the impressive progress made by the NCC since its inception in Mizoram in 1964, emphasizing the organization’s unparalleled role in fostering discipline and offering diverse opportunities for youth. Reflecting on his own experiences as an NCC cadet, he stressed the value of NCC participation for individuals aspiring to join the Armed Forces, asserting the organization’s effectiveness in shaping responsible, well-rounded citizens.
Looking ahead, the Governor expressed optimism that the new headquarters would dramatically expand NCC activities among local youth and urged cadets to embody the NCC motto of “Unity & Discipline.” He commended the local NCC Band for its accolades at Republic Day parades and encouraged ongoing pursuit of excellence. The Governor underscored the extensive range of activities conducted by the NCC, including community service, disaster response, blood donation initiatives, environmental protection efforts, and social awareness programs, all of which foster patriotism and contribute to societal development. He praised the Mizoram Government’s initiatives to boost adventure tourism, expressing a desire for more NCC cadets to engage in adventurous activities moving forward, and reiterated the government’s commitment to furthering the NCC’s development in the region. Additionally, a documentary showcasing the history and accomplishments of the NCC in Mizoram was screened during the program.
