In Gurugram, a truck was swallowed by a huge hole late on Wednesday night after a heavy downpour forced part of the road to collapse, seriously affecting traffic.
Around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the vehicle was travelling along the Southern Peripheral Road when it abruptly crashed into a crater that had just developed. Since the collapse, the truck has been stuck in the crater after overturning.
After the region saw record-breaking rains, an accumulation of rainwater caused the collapse. According to the India Meteorological Department, Gurugram received 133 mm of rain during 12 hours, with more than 103 mm pouring in only 90 minutes. During the same time frame, the nearby Wazirabad tehsil recorded 122 mm.
A truck driver escaped minor injuries after a downpour caused significant waterlogging in key locations across the Delhi-National Capital Region, including Gurugram, causing impassability and awaiting a technical inspection.
Heavy rain has caused road closures in Gurugram, with Narsinghpur stretch submerged and subhash Chowk experiencing accumulated water levels. Authorities urge commuters to work from home or avoid unnecessary travel.
