In a major blow to an international drug trafficking ring, Gurugram Police have arrested eight individuals, including six Nigerian nationals and a woman from Mizoram, for their alleged roles in a narcotics smuggling network operating in and around the National Capital Region. Drugs worth over ₹1 crore have been seized in the operation, officials confirmed on Friday. The crackdown began on June 16, when a team from the Crime Unit of Gurugram Police apprehended Bimal Pahadi, a Nepalese national, from Sector 39. He was caught with 1.60 kilograms of Sulpha (a potent cannabis derivative) and 116 grams of cocaine. An FIR was filed at the Sadar police station, and Pahadi was sent to four days’ police custody for interrogation.

During questioning, Pahadi allegedly disclosed the identities of seven accomplices who were supplying him with the narcotics. Acting swiftly, police launched a follow-up operation on June 19 and 20, arresting six Nigerian men and one Indian woman from Mizoram from various locations in Gurugram.

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

Ugochukwu John alias David

Nnajiofor Peter Nmaemeka

Henry Onuchukwu

Ojukwa Ifenya

Friday Tobias Chikwu

Okolie Romanus

Lal Kothari (Mizoram)

According to investigators, only Okolie Romanus possessed valid documents permitting him to stay in India. The remaining foreign nationals were found to be living illegally and have been booked under the Foreigners Act in addition to narcotics charges under the NDPS Act. A police spokesperson stated that the syndicate appears to be well-organised and long-running, with some members already facing criminal charges in other states. “Ugochukwu John has pending cases in Delhi, and Henry Onuchukwu is wanted in NDPS cases in Himachal Pradesh,” the official noted.“This is not a one-off case. The group’s structure, supply chain, and past records suggest the existence of a well-entrenched drug trafficking network operating across multiple states,” the spokesperson added.
