State Chief Minister Khili Ram Meena has directed all Deputy Commissioners across Mizoram to maintain strict vigilance over stock levels and on-ground distribution of essential commodities, particularly LPG and petroleum products. The move is aimed at preventing black marketing, hoarding, and any diversion of supplies.

Meena instructed district authorities to take firm action against violators under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.

The Chief Secretary highlighted that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) is actively monitoring LPG and petroleum supply nationwide and has issued directives to all states for continuous supervision to avoid shortages.

He also referred to a recent meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Chief Ministers and Chief Secretaries, where the importance of close monitoring of supply and distribution systems was strongly emphasised.

Reassuring the public, Meena stated that there is adequate stock of LPG and petroleum products (petrol/diesel) across the state, and there is no need for panic. This was further confirmed in a follow-up meeting involving Deputy Commissioners, officials of the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department and Oil Marketing Companies, where all districts reported sufficient availability.

He urged the citizens to use LPG judiciously, report hoarding or black marketing through official helplines and contact authorities for any supply-related grievances

The government’s focus remains on ensuring uninterrupted supply and preventing artificial shortages through strict enforcement and public cooperation, he added.

Meanwhile, the Police officials in south Mizoram’s Lunglei town seized 1,600 litres of petrol and 400 litres of diesel at the Mizofed filling station on Saturday while being loaded into trucks in oil drums with alleged intention of being transported to Myanmar.
