Foxconn, the Taiwanese electronics giant and Apple’s largest iPhone manufacturer, has started small-scale production of the iPhone 17 at its new factory in Devanahalli, near Bengaluru. This unit, Foxconn’s second-largest globally outside China, is being developed with an investment of $2.8 billion (around ₹25,000 crore). The iPhone 17 is also being produced at the company’s Chennai facility. Although Apple and Foxconn have not officially commented, sources confirmed the Bengaluru plant’s operations have begun, despite earlier disruptions caused by the sudden exit of several Chinese engineers. To fill the gap, Foxconn brought in experts from Taiwan and other locations. Apple aims to ramp up iPhone production to 60 million units this year, up from 35–40 million in FY25. In FY25, Apple assembled 60% more iPhones in India, valued at approximately $22 billion. CEO Tim Cook revealed that most iPhones sold in the US in June 2025 came from India. Apple’s iPhone shipments within India rose 21.5% in H1 2025, with the iPhone 16 leading sales. Apple held a 7.5% market share in India’s smartphone market during Q2 2025.
