
At the age of 71, veteran Congressman and former Mizoram Rajya Sabha MP Ronald Sapa Tlau passed away in New Delhi on Wednesday morning. He died at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at around eight in the morning after having open heart surgery two days earlier. According to family sources, Tlau experienced several health issues after the procedure, including kidney failure, which caused his condition to rapidly worsen. The funeral is set for Friday at his home in the Zonuam neighbourhood, and his body will be flown to Aizawl on Thursday.
Tlau, who was born in the Serchhip district’s Hualtu village on February 4, 1954, was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 2014 until 2020. He was elected when the Congress government, which was led by former Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla, was in power. He served as the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee’s (MPCC) vice president till his death. Tlau had a number of important roles in the state Congress unit over his lengthy political career, including chairman of the party’s medical cell, chief spokesperson, and general secretary.
Condolences were conveyed by state leaders, including Lalduhoma, the chief minister of Mizoram. Lalduhoma stated, “It is a great loss,” in a post on X. He will always be a part of our hearts. His unwavering dedication to Mizoram is much valued.
