Secretary Chanchal Kumar of the Ministry of Development of Northeastern Region (DoNER) conducted an inspection of the Kawlri Tlang Cultural Heritage Centre, which is currently under construction in the Serchhip district of Mizoram. This initiative, spearheaded by Mizoram’s Chief Minister Lalduhoma, who also serves as the MLA for the Serchhip constituency, aims to enhance the cultural heritage of the region. The project is being financed by the Northeastern Council (NEC), with construction commencing in September 2024 and expected to conclude in early 2025.

The total cost of the project is Rs 4.31 crore, managed by Excell Consultancy Services under the auspices of the Public Works Department (PWD). As of the secretary’s visit, approximately 65 percent of the work has been completed. During this detailed inspection, Secretary Kumar provided directives to the contractor to accelerate the pace of construction, assuring them of the Ministry’s commitment to funding the project without constraints.

In addition, he proposed an enhancement to the project’s scope by suggesting the addition of a trekking route, aimed at enriching the cultural and recreational offerings of the site. Accompanying the DoNER Secretary were UD&PA Secretary Lalmalsawma, Serchhip Deputy Commissioner Paul L Khuma, Additional Deputy Commissioner Lalrinzuala, along with other officials, emphasizing the collaborative effort in realizing this significant cultural initiative.
