Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma on Wednesday joined hundreds of students and community members in the “Rally – Fight Against Drugs,” organised under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drugs Free India Campaign). More than 600 students from schools and colleges participated in the event, which formed part of both the State Level and Aizawl District Level programmes to mark the campaign’s 5th anniversary. The rally commenced from two starting points — Chanmari and Sikulpuikawn — converging at Lammual for the main programme. The Chief Minister flagged off participants from Chanmari and marched alongside them to the venue.

In his address, Lalduhoma highlighted Mizoram’s vulnerability to drug trafficking due to its proximity to the Golden Triangle, one of the world’s most notorious drug production hubs. “Drugs bring no benefit to society and must be eradicated completely,” he declared, urging communities to remain vigilant and united. He called on the youth to reject drugs outright, warning that even experimental use could lead to addiction. For those already caught in the cycle, he appealed for courage to seek help and rebuild their lives. Health Minister Pi Lalrinpuii and Excise & Narcotics Minister Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar also addressed the gathering, reinforcing the state’s commitment to fighting substance abuse. Participants carried placards with anti-drug messages, and a contest for the best placard design added a creative dimension to the campaign, with prizes awarded to winners.

The event saw Miss Vanlalnuntluangi, Miss Grand India, lead the crowd in an anti-drug pledge, underscoring the message with youth-driven enthusiasm. The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan is currently active in 372 districts nationwide, including all districts of Mizoram. The campaign focuses on awareness, prevention, and discouraging first-time drug use, with community mobilisation at its core.
