The Assam Rifles seized 6.86 kilograms (approximately 70,700 tablets) of methamphetamine valued at around Rs 21 crore at Zokhawthar on the Mizoram–Myanmar border, officials said on Tuesday. The operation was conducted on Monday following specific intelligence inputs about a consignment suspected to be smuggled across the international border.

The drugs were intercepted before they could enter the local market, marking a significant step in curbing narcotics trafficking in the region. No arrests were made during the operation. The seized methamphetamine was handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Aizawl for further investigation and legal proceedings.

Officials noted that the Mizoram–Myanmar frontier has increasingly become a vulnerable route for drug smuggling in the Northeast. “The Assam Rifles has intensified vigilance along border areas in recent months to check smuggling activities, which continue to pose a challenge to security agencies in the region,” the release said.
