In a coordinated operation, the Assam Rifles and the Customs Preventive Force seized illegal goods worth ₹1.4 crore in Mizoram’s Champhai district. The joint raid, conducted on October 16 and 17, 2024, targeted the areas of Hmunhmeltha and Zokhathar, known for smuggling activities along the India-Myanmar border.
The team confiscated a substantial haul, including heroin No. 4, illegal areca nuts, and foreign-origin liquor. Authorities estimate the value of the seized items at ₹1 crore 40 lakh. This operation is part of ongoing efforts to crack down on smuggling in the region, which remains a persistent issue.
In a separate incident, a Myanmar national was arrested with heroin worth ₹32.9 lakh. Acting on a tip-off, Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police set up a checkpoint at Zokhawthar village near the border on October 15. During a thorough inspection, 47 grams of heroin were found in the possession of Vanneihce, a 20-year-old resident of Kaley, Myanmar.
