The State Cabinet has sanctioned Rs 150 crore for the development of infrastructure for Assam Police; however, the financial assistance from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for modernization has been on a decline. The police force received Rs 26.4 crore from the MHA for three consecutive fiscal years, but this figure was reduced by more than 55% to Rs 11.65 crore in the fiscal year 2022-23. The trend of reduction persisted into 2023-24, with only Rs 6.58 crore allocated, representing a decrease of over 70% compared to the prior year. This reduction in funding has raised alarms regarding Assam’s capability to enhance essential police infrastructure. The funding distribution for Assam and other northeastern states stands at 90:10, with ongoing concerns regarding police stations, barracks, and fundamental amenities.
