Mizoram’s capital is preparing for its second international urban downhill mountain biking challenge, with officials announcing that Aizawl will once again host the Red Bull Aizawl Tlang Ruam this November.
The announcement followed a high-level review meeting led by Sports and Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar, who convened with key government officials, event partners, and community leaders to evaluate preparations for the adrenaline-fueled race.
The race, which attracted international attention last year as Asia’s inaugural urban downhill biking event, is being enhanced to provide a more challenging course and a wider range of participants.
“Aizawl Tlang Ruam represents Mizoram’s increasing ability to host world-class events. More than just a sport, it serves as a platform for youth engagement, local economic development, and global connectivity,” stated Hmar, emphasizing the broader vision behind the sporting event. The first edition in October 2024 brought together top downhill bikers from across the globe and helped establish Mizoram’s position on the international adventure sports map. Riders maneuvered through steep, winding staircases and narrow alleys in an exhilarating exhibition of endurance and skill, set against the backdrop of the city’s remarkable urban landscape.
Officials at the meeting confirmed that the forthcoming edition will feature an improved and extended racing route, incorporating additional technical challenges and adhering to global downhill racing standards.
The state tourism department, in partnership with Red Bull and other private sponsors, is anticipated to promote the event vigorously to establish Aizawl as a new hub for extreme sports enthusiasts.
Organizers also deliberated on the involvement of local communities in the event through cultural presentations and youth engagement initiatives, aiming to create a lasting economic and social impact.
