The Manipur Police force was strengthened in the violent northeastern state on Monday when over 2,000 recruits graduated from the Lachit Borphukan Police Academy here. The primary guests during the ceremony were Manipur primary Minister N Biren Singh and Assam and Manipur Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya. According to the senior official, 1,984 Manipur Police recruits began their rigorous 44-week basic training program at the Assam Police Academy here in January.
According to the Assam Police official, the Lachit Borphukan Police Academy (LBPA) was selected for this program because of its “successful track record in training recruits over the past two years,” during which time over 7,000 people received effective training. Physical fitness, expertise with small guns, unarmed combat (UAC), crowd control, disaster management, law and policing, soft skill development, and tactical training were all part of the extensive training program.
The recruits were selected from six battalions of the Manipur Rifles and nine battalions of the India Reserve, which is stationed in Manipur. Additionally, he stated that the physical levels of the recruits were concerning upon arrival because 50% of them were overweight, with 5% being obese. According to the official, LBPA’s training methodology has been updated since 2022 to include scientific and practical techniques in accordance with modern policing standards.
